FDCC News
The FDCC’s FedSERVES Committee launched its most recent project this fall, which culminated
in the donation of
over 500 books to the children of veterans in Philadelphia.
The committee’s book drive project was initially planned to coincide with the Federation’s Corporate Counsel Symposium, to be held in Philadelphia in October. As with many events in 2020, this event was transitioned to a (very successful) virtual event.
Undeterred, the FedSERVES Committee, led by co-Chairs Lynne Ingram and Tiffany Alexander, determined that the book drive could also pivot to an online event. Committee member Attie Carville worked with the co-chairs to put together an Amazon Wish List specifying the recommended books for the drive. On November 1st, the Wish List went live.
The project was featured in the Friday “5’s”, and the response from over 300 of our generous members was immediate. Through the “Friday 5’s” and social media, word of the FedSERVES project spread, and the FDCC family far and wide responded. Even FDCC family and friends got involved. Ed and Maddie Kaplan’s daughter, Elizabeth Frew, is the National Account Manager
at Candlewick Press, and thanks to her, a case of books was donated. Bernie & Martha Heinze’s friend, Karen Baker, owns The Country
Bookseller book shop in Wolfeboro, NH, and also contributed generously to this project.
Lynne and Jon Ingram’s brother- in-law, Dan Schmidt, works for
the VA in Philadelphia, and was called upon to bring the VA’s large van to aid in delivery of the books because of the size of the donation. In early December, 537 children’s books were delivered to the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Philadelphia. These books were distributed to families whose parent or loved one was recovering in the hospital through a holiday gift basket along with food pantry items. Given the significant number of books delivered, they were distributed to hundreds of children regionally, including children
in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. The FedSERVES Committee thanks its
members and the entire FDCC for their support of this project.
FedSERVES is dedicated to continuing its work through a variety of important and worthy efforts. Currently, the committee has partnered with the “Community in the Schools for Greenbrier County” project inviting members to purchase needed school supplies through a wish list on
amazon.com for children in the community surrounding White Sulfur Springs, WV where the Annual Meeting will be taking place in August. Its next project will be a virtual food drive to address ongoing food insecurity which has worsened during the coronavirus pandemic. Details of how you can help in this worthy cause will be forthcoming soon.
