YASTREBFILM PROFILE SERGEY YASTRZHEMBSKIY
Sergey was born in 1953 in Moscow, Russia.
Former diplomat, politician, Boris Yeltsin’s Spokesman, Aide to President Vladimir Putin and Special Presidential Envoy to the EU.
From 2008 onwards he has been at the helm of a Cultural and Ethnographic Fund «Out of Time» and a film production company “Yastrebfilm”. Author, producer and director of more than 60 documentary films. Russian and European Film Academy Member.
The first full-length film of the Yastrebfilm “Africa. Blood and Beauty” about disappearing African civilizations was premiered during the World Film Festival of Montreal in 2011 and won the “Golden Eagle Award” by the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Russia in nomination “The Best Documentary Film” in 2013.
In 2009-2012 the Yastrebfilm Studio produced 12 films about trophy hunting for the series “Hunting with Sergey Yastrzhembskiy”. In 2016 Sergey released the investigation documentary “Ivory. A Crime Story” about the causes and consequences of an unprecedented demand for ivory after 3 years of shooting in 30 countries with over 250 hours of raw material.
In November 2016 the documentary was submitted for consideration for the Feature Doc Oscar at the 89th Academy Awards. In January 2017 "Ivory. A Crime Story" won the Golden Eagle Award 2016 of the National Academy of Picture Arts and Science of Russia as the "Best Documentary Film".
