Autumn equinox: March 21, 8:58 am AEDT
As the trees start to lose their leaves, the days and nights are now the same duration (Equinox means “equal night”). At the Autumn Equinox we harvest the rewards of what we began in Spring and continued through Summer. If we’ve cultivated wisely we’ll enjoy a bountiful harvest that will continue to provide through winter. This is a time of giving thanks and receiving, and recognising that the dark will soon begin to outweigh the light.
Samhain (halfway between the Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice) is also known as All Soul’s Eve, or Halloween. The veil between worlds is at its thinnest, and this is traditionally a time to honour the dead that have left our lives. We need to embrace the growing shadows and recognise that the light must give way to the dark as we prepare to enter womb of winter.
