Winter is the season of death. We can often resist going into the darkness and meeting her uncertainty, but as the trees become bare so we too need to rest, draw our energy inwards, and tend to the spaces of our internal world. This is the time to let go, prune back the branches of our external affairs and rest in the knowing that a new cycle is being born from the void. As we drop deeper into Winter’s mystery, we receive the first seeds of our new year’s creations.
Imbolc (halfway between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox) is the time of Spring cleaning, where we clear out the cobwebs of Winter and make room for a new cycle to begin. As the warmth begins to creep back into the ground we prepare the soil and germinate the seedlings of our new year’s intentions, and the preparation we do now ensures the success of all that we will create.
