WABL FINALS SAW FURTHER EXPANSION WITH OVERFLOW VENUES FOR WEEKS 1 AND 2, HELPING ALLEVIATE THE CAPACITY CONSTRAINTS
The 2023 WABL Season was another fantastic season and saw further resurgence in the sport. With 368 teams across 38 Divisions, 2023 was WABL’s biggest season yet!
For the first time since 2019, the league saw no Covid interruptions. The Grading Tournament and the regular season went unscathed, while WABL Finals saw further expansion with overflow venues for Weeks 1 and 2, helping alleviate the capacity constraints at Bendat Basketball Centre. In a move further signalling the league’s growth, the Under 20 Boys grand finals were hosted on a Friday night in a successful move that may shape future plans for Finals.
Basketball WA’s partnership with Streamer.com.au grew in 2023, with every Court 1 finals game being streamed live on WA’s premier streaming platform. 2023 also saw Basketball WA complete the Junior Competitions Review, a task that was set out to help plan for basketball’s continued growth, especially in WABL. We look forward to a number of exciting new initiatives in 2024.
We thank our Association’s WABL Administrators for their dedication to producing a successful season. We recognise the importance of the players, coaches, managers, referees, scoretable officials and shot clock operators, as well as extending our thanks to the parents and spectators.
