HP DEVELOPMENT AND PATHWAYS
HOTSHOTS PROGRAM
In 2023 BWA continued their delivery of the U12 Hotshots program. The program consists of two portions, the U12 HotShots Skills days and the HotShots Jamboree. The HotShots Skills days were ran all over the state with BWA regional development officers running them in their respective regions as well as Skills days ran in Metropolitan Perth. After the completion of the skills days, 180 athletes were invited to attend the HotShots Jamboree which is an 2-day event held at Bendat Basketball Centure during the Term 3 school holidays. The Jamboree had training sessions and organized games for the athletes to take part of. Thank you to all our volunteer coaches who help make this program run and provide a safe and fun environment for the kids.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
After the 2022 restructuring to the Future Development Program, BWA continued the growth from last years program and had over 200 athletes attending FDP Skill sessions in the first quarter of the year. Similar to the HotShots program, upon completion of the Skill sessions (held both regionally and in metropolitan Perth) around 80 athletes were invited into the Future Development Program to participate in different camps throughout the year, working on foundational skills and some High- Performance teaching concepts that the athletes will encounter the following year at upcoming BWA High Performance trials and programming.
Again, acknowledgement of BWA’s Regional Development Officers work in this space is paramount. The Officers help run these programs regionally and provide a platform and connect these athletes to programming that includes everyone from all over the state. Providing these athletes with great learning opportunities and new competition to go up against.
Thank you again to the 25 plus coaches who helped throughout the duration of the program, your assistance is greatly appreciated by all.
EMERGING TALENT PROGRAM
2023 saw the continuation of the Emerging Talent Program for the U15 and U17 cohort of athletes. This program continues to be the bridge between our Future Development Program and our State Performance Program. With positions being so limited into the State Performance Program this program allows BWA to maintain contact and teaching opportunities with athletes throughout the year.
Nearly 100 athletes across the state are involved and attend camps and connect with other programming in the BWA Pathway. These athletes are provided guest speakers and guest coaches to help improve off court habits on top of the on court work were they strictly work on skills and BWA style of play concepts that are required at a higher level.
