community, and participation engagement, fostering an inclusive basketball community for players of all ages and skill levels. Notably, they celebrate cultural diversity, promoting unity and understanding within the wider community. Congratulations to the Karratha Basketball Association for their significant contributions to the sport, inspiring players, coaches, and enthusiasts alike.
The Perry Lakes Basketball Association is recognized with the Healthy Club Award for their exemplary dedication to health, wellness, and proper nutrition. Through their partnership with Healthway and support of the Fuel to Go & Play® message, Perry Lakes has paved the way for a healthier future for their players, parents, and the entire community. Their commitment to promoting a healthy diet, increasing fruit and vegetable consumption, and providing valuable resources on proper nutrition sets them apart. By fuelling their athletes with the right foods, Perry Lakes has played a pivotal role in their development and success. Congratulations to the Perry Lakes Basketball Association, the well- deserved recipient of the Healthway Fuelling Champions Healthy Award.

Team has made significant strides in reinforcing the values of integrity, inclusivity, and excellence within our basketball community. Through the dedication and commitment of our team members, we have implemented various initiatives aimed at fostering a safe and respectful environment for all participants.
NEW TEAM MEMBER
We were delighted to welcome Kelly Loakes to our team as the Integrity and Member Protection Support Officer. Kelly brings with her a wealth of experience and dedication, enhancing our organisation's commitment to excellence. In her role, Kelly has played a pivotal role in implementing initiatives to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members. Her efforts have been instrumental in developing and implementing policies, providing support, and fostering a culture of trust and accountability.
BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK
In collaboration with Perth and Willetton Basketball Associations teams, we launched the Behaviour Management Framework (BMF) trial in 2023. This initiative aims to cultivate a more positive and respectful basketball environment, setting the stage for the upcoming 2024 WABL season. The BMF trial focuses on assessing and implementing strategies to promote a positive behavioural culture within our basketball community. Central to this initiative is the introduction of the Environment Points (E-Points) system, which emphasizes the importance of game day behaviour in enhancing the overall basketball experience for everyone involved.
VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
Recognising the importance of volunteer development, we organised a Due Diligence course for our Associations later in 2023. This comprehensive Executive Development Program equipped participants with the knowledge and
duty of care, manage safety effectively, and understand legislative obligations. By investing in the development of our Associations' Executive Teams, we aim to sustain a secure and compliant workplace, aligning with legal requirements and fulfilling management responsibilities outlined in the WHS Management System.
RECOGNITION AWARDS
The Cockburn Basketball Association receives the prestigious Metro Basketball Association of the Year award for their outstanding achievements and commitment to the sport. Boasting an impressive 253 junior teams and 70 senior teams in their Junior Domestic Competition, Cockburn has cultivated an inclusive and safe environment for players of all ages. Their commendable community engagement includes partnerships with local schools and the NBL1 program, bringing basketball closer to grassroots levels. Additionally, Cockburn celebrated their 50th-year anniversary with a grand gala night, honouring their rich history while looking towards a promising future. Notably, the association's dedication to supporting aspiring players shines through their creation of scholarships worth over $20,000, easing financial burdens for families. Cockburn Basketball Association sets a high standard for player development and strategic planning, inspiring players and enthusiasts alike. Congratulations to Cockburn Basketball Association for their exceptional contributions to the sport.
The Karratha Basketball Association is honoured with the BWA Country Association of the Year award for their remarkable governance improvements and commitment to inclusivity. Through streamlining operations and fostering a welcoming family environment, Karratha has demonstrated exceptional organizational skills.
