ENHANCING YOUTH RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Basketball WA visited Christmas and Cocos Keeling Islands aimed at enhancing youth recreational activities post-school hours, increase basketball proficiency within educational institutions, backing local senior activity initiatives, and upskill volunteers to deliver basketball knowledge.
The initiative sought to expand the support network involving local shire and school representatives while fostering basketball's growth across all tiers of engagement.
Over the 10 days the game of basketball joined together 25 senior citizens of territories and over 280 children embraced the sport for learning and enjoyment.
The visit included 3x3 community activations with after school tournaments. School clinics included Aussie Hoops programming for the Pre-Primary, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 classes, as well as individual1on1skilldevelopmentfor3x3 pick-up games for the Year 4 to Year 10.
Given basketball's popularity in schools, lunchtime pick-up games emerged as a cornerstone activity, offering students opportunities to challenge coaches and teachers in 1-on-1 encounters while showcasing newfound skills in a game setting.
