Brent Dawkins General Manager
The 2021/2022 Perth Lynx season was once again impacted by Covid 19 and with Western Australia’s hard border stance the team started the season a month late followed by a six week stint in the Victorian Regional town of Ballarat.
PERTH LYNX SEASON AWARDS
A number of changes in the off season both on and off the court provided optimism for a strong season ahead. The exciting return of Sami Whitcomb along with two very talented WNBA athletes in Marina Mabrey from Dallas Wings and Jackie Young from Las Vegas Aces.
The final make-up of the team once again had a strong Western Australian focus with Darcee Garbin having the honour as being named captain for our season along with 11 out of the contracted players having links to Western Australian basketball.
After an extended pre-season we started with a close loss over Adelaide followed by some outstanding performances while being based in Ballarat and finishing with a 7 and 2 record before being allowed back into Western Australia.
Almost 800 days had passed before we could finally a home game at Bendat Basketball Centre followed by a short stint of four home games in 8 days providing our loyal Western Australian fans some exciting live basketball.
We finished the home and away season with three games on the roadpriortoanexcitingfinalsseries.
Throughout the 2021/22 WNBL season four of our athletes Alex Sharp, Lauren Scherf, Darcee Garbin and Sami Whitcomb were selected in the Opals squad with Darcee and Sami making the final team that travelled to Serbia for the world cup qualifiers
Finally I would like to personally thank our coaching staff Ryan Petrik, Brad Robbins and Natalie Burton, our medical and strength and conditioning team, our home game volunteers as well as Lauren Breen our Operations Manager. Without all your help and expertise the season would not have been the success that it has been.
