RECORD HIGH NUMBERS
OVER FIVE WEEKENDS OF BASKETBALL
The 2021 Basketball WA Country Championships saw a record 338 teams nominated across 37 Affiliated Associations from all around the State. This was a 30-team increase on 2020.
The decision was made in 2021 to extend the Championships to take placeoverfiveweekendsasopposed to four. This was to ensure all games were able to be hosted by Basketball WA at Bendat Basketball Centre.
After a successful opening weekend of the Championships, Basketball WA were forced to make the difficult decision to cancel Weeks 2 and 3 due
to COVID restrictions in the Metro area. We were fortunate to return to action in Weeks 4 and 5.
BWA engaged with The West Australian who provided streaming services for all Court 1 games at Bendat. This was a huge step forward for the tournament and was exceptionally received by the basketball community. The tournament will look to continue such streaming facilities in the future.
We look forward to 2022 and the prospect of retaining the record-high numbers were received in 2021.
