Help Wanted? The New Normal?
Page 15
By Brittany amalfi
We have certainly been in some weird times lately, but there is no doubt that since the pandemic started, the world of employment has looked a lot dif- ferent. With all the changes the world has seen over the past few years, everyone is getting used to what we should call a “new normal.” However, that “new normal” might just have some negative consequences on local businesses. Sure, a lot of people work remotely now, and some might have different hours, but in retrospect, there just seem to be a lot of businesses that just can’t find employees.
From town halls to restaurants to everywhere in between, where has all the help gone? Recently,
local businesses and organiza- tions have had to adjust to being short-staffed, and there’s no doubt how difficult that can be. I took a peek at the Franklin web- site and saw that there were mul- tiple job openings posted, from positions at the Parks and Recre- ations, school year and summer
positions. And not to mention, there are a variety of restaurants in the Franklin area looking for help. Millions of people have quit their jobs all over the coun- try, and New Hampshire is no stranger to staffing shortages.
You would think that age-old question would be, “why don’t
people want to work anymore?” But I think the more important question is, “how have small businesses dealt with the staff- ing shortages?” Well, there is no doubt that the current employ- ees of our beloved Franklin local businesses have been working even harder to keep providing their outstanding services to the community.
The people of the community know that the local businesses in the area have always been sta- ples in our small towns. From the restaurants and local shops, all of these businesses have been work- ing tirelessly to continue to pro- vide for the residents and guests of the Franklin area.
I believe it goes without saying that doing our part and support- ing these local businesses is vital. It has definitely been challenging for these establishments with all the staffing shortages, but they have been working through it and doing what they can to stay on track.
So be sure to stop into the local businesses that our area is so lucky to have that has provided so much to our community over the years, and since some might be struggling with staff shortages, remember to be kind!
If you or someone are look- ing for a job, be sure to check out some local businesses in the Franklin area!
