The Tapply-Thompson Community Center (formerly Bristol Community Center) is entering its 78th year of serving the Newfound Region with recre- ational and other programs. We are housed in a former Church building that was erected in 1890 and converted for recreational programming in 1946. Gener- ations of families have had the opportunity to play sports, come to the after-school program and enjoy eight weeks of summer day camps. Adult programming abounds as well with fitness classes, pickleball, adult softball, badminton, volleyball & more. We currently have 244 youth reg- istered for our summer day camps – a record-breaking amount!
We at the TTCC are entering a new era with plans to renovate our current building and having
purchased a piece of property for additional programming space. We have no plans to leave our much beloved TTCC building, but our program numbers have increased to a level that we are unable to support our many activ- ities under one roof. Our current Director and Assistant Director, Leslie Dion & Dan MacLean, have had the benefit of being in the programs from a young age. They have seen firsthand what a difference having trusted adults leading fun and educational ac- tivities can have on our youth.
The Center has an active Teen Council that meets throughout the school year and holds events such as the popular ‘Parents Night Out,’ Teen Dances for Middle School Students, and 5th & 6th Grade ‘Bashes’ that in- corporate a themed event twice
a year. In addition, the Center hosts many popular events that include the NH Marathon, An- nual Apple Festival & Craft Fair, and Santa’s Village, which has over 1,000 visitors each year. It is truly a place where the com- munity meets and thrives!
As we plan for the future, our Board is committed to im- plementing a Strategic Plan that encompasses the next three years. We have identified our needs that include a restructuring of our cur- rent building to include updated bathroom facilities, a relocation of our offices to better welcome our visitors, an updated security system and a new heating system. Of course, all of this comes with a cost and we began our Capi- tal Campaign in December. We had a local donor that offered to give $25,000 to the campaign if
we could get four additional do- nors of $25,000. It seemed like an impossible task, but within three weeks, we had raised over $165,000. The magic of Christ- mas was definitely in the air!
A donor from that campaign came forward with a new chal- lenge with an additional $25,000 and the promise of a $25,000 match if we could raise $100,000 in donations of any amount. We are in the midst of that cam- paign right now and have raised $57,000 to date. We are $43,000 short of our goal to receive the additional $25,000 Match.
We have also hired a Grant Writer/Community Engagement Director, Mark Dionne, and are actively pursuing grant funds to help with these two projects. We are asking for your help in meeting our goal of $100,000 by July 31st.
With NH Gives coming up on June 6-7, it is a great opportunity to help. If you have ever thought about donating to your local non- profit, next Tuesday, June 6th, might just be the perfect time. Starting at 5 pm on June 6th and running for 24 hours until 5 pm on June 7th, the Tapply-Thompson Community Center is asking for your support. You can go online at https://www.nhgives.org/orga- nizations/tapply-thompson-com- munity-center and help us to fulfill our exciting future plans.
We will also be accepting do- nations on our website at www. ttccrec.org. There is a donate now button on the top of the page and one at the bottom of the page.
We are so grateful for the out- pouring of community support and look forward to serving for another 78+ years!
