The Minot Sleeper Library, located at 35 Pleasant Street in Bristol, New Hampshire, has been serving the community since 1885, providing educa- tional experiences, resources, and enrichment activities for all ages.
The library is free to all res- idents and employees that work in Bristol, Danbury, Alexandria, New Hampton, Groton, Hill, and Hebron. A library card takes less than five minutes to apply for; all you need is proof of residency, whether a license or a bill with your current address. If you are employed in the town and not a resident, bring proof of employment.
The library is more than a quiet place with books; it is a place where children fall in love with reading and their imagi- nation soar. It’s a place where dreams and adventures are born! It’s a place for many to escape or for many to have a wealth of re- sources at their fingertips!
It is a safe and welcoming place to do research, print and photocopy items, connect with friends, hold a meeting, join a book club, use the internet, and have a secure place to work re- motely!
Once you have your library card, you can use your number
the Minot Sleeper Library
to sign into the Libby app, which offers thousands of audiobooks to listen to as well as books to read on a screen. Your library card also gives you access to an app called Kanopy, which offers numerous movies and documen- taries that change weekly.
If for some reason, when you are browsing the shelves and can’t find that book for a book club or a second source for that paper, the librarian can borrow an item from any library in the state, and if they have the item, it will be sent to the Minot Sleeper Library for a speedy pickup!
Not only can you check out books and DVDs, but you can also check out a telescope and have a night looking at the stars! You can also check out puzzles, a hiking backpack with a pass to one of New Hampshire’s state parks, and you can even check out a ukulele and keyboard.
Families looking for local adventures can check out day passes to local attractions. Many of these passes are free or offered to library card holders at a big discount. For example, the Minot Sleeper Library has passes to the Currier Museum of Art, McAu- liffe Shepard Discovery Center, The WWII Wright Museum, Squam Lakes Science Center, Canterbury Shaker Village, and the Vermont Institute of Natural
Science.
If you are homebound and
have no means of someone going to the library for you, the Minot Sleeper Library offers a home delivery service! Just call the front desk at 603.744.3352 for more information!
The library offers numer- ous activities throughout the year, including lectures from the NH Humanities Council, Book Clubs, Quilting Club, Storytime, Playing Board Games, and Cre- ating Crafts! The library also has a beautiful meeting room that your club can book for your
monthly meetings if available. As of mid-December 2022, the library had 18,958 visits where 22,857 items were checked out. This year 404 community members got their first library card! The library was also able to
offer 392 community programs! Tax dollars and generous do- nors fund the library! All dona-
tions are tax-deductible.
The Friends of the Library is
a group of dedicated and pas- sionate community members that meet on the first Monday of every month at 10:30 AM. They fundraise and support the library
in numerous ways! Currently, there are a dozen members, and new members are welcome! If interested, email friendsofminot- sleeper@gmail.com. The library runs with two full-time employ- ees, five part-time employees, and amazing volunteers! All vol- unteers must complete a back- ground check.
The library is open Monday through Saturday. For more in- formation on the library or to browse the card catalog, visit www.minotsleeperlibrary.org
