If you have ever experi- enced an outdoor shower, you know how refreshing it can be. There’s something special about the experience of getting clean under the open skies with a fresh breeze blowing about. And the benefits to your home are many... it reduces the load on your septic system, it keeps moisture out of your home, and prevents wear and tear on your indoor bathroom. Not to mention, you’ll have to clean your indoor shower much less frequently. And renters love this amenity!
You may think that adding an outdoor shower is costly or difficult, but if you have some basic DIY skills, you can do it yourself. Alternatively, hire a handy person to make it for you using relatively inexpensive ma- terials.
You can make your outdoor shower freestanding, or you can build it on to the side of your
house (an inside corner works well for this). Consider ease of access to both hot and cold water by positioning your out- door shower close to a kitchen or bathroom wall. Also, try to find a tucked away location for privacy. Make sure you have crushed stone underneath for drainage, and most importantly, I would recommend using plas- tic/pvc deck boards as the floor so you don’t have to worry about splinters.
Once you have created the stall, you can buy an out- door shower fixture (many are available online), and have a plumber run hot and cold water lines to it and you’re in busi- ness! If you would like to see the building of an outdoor shower in stages, you can find more be- fore and after pics at facebook. com/alexsellsnewhampshire. If you’ve ever considered adding an outdoor shower, go for it! It’s a great home improvement at a minimal cost that you’ll enjoy for years to come.
