David Rodriguez is a 16-year- old athlete and student at NRHS. David is an exchange student that came to Newfound last August from Spain. Living with a family in the community, David decided to play soccer and basketball for Newfound this school year.
For soccer, David was a cen- ter midfielder and starter for the varsity team. He scored multiple goals and assisted on many oth- ers. He brought a hard-working and a determined mentality to
the field and to the team every game. For the basketball pro- gram, David is a swinger. He plays point guard for both the junior varsity and varsity teams. As a player on the junior varsity team, he is looked at to push the ball up the floor and be the team leader with the ball in his hand. David is very good at driving to the hoop and finishing around the hoop. He is a very unselfish player and facilitates the ball to his teammates to give them an
opportunity to score as well. David is one of the hard- est-working players in both the soccer and basketball programs. He pushes himself every game to be the best possible player he can be, and it shows in his per- formance. Because of that, he has helped the programs and teams grow. When he isn’t out there playing in the game, he is always engaged, focused on the bench, and ready to be called in for a sub whenever the coaches
or on the court, he brings that diligent mentality to his school- work. As a result, David has one of the highest GPAs on the team and continues to show a great example of what a student-ath- lete is.
Newfound coaches and the players have learned a lot from David in the first two seasons he has been here. From his hard work and determination to the focus and importance of school work and succeeding not just on the field or court. We are excited to see what he decides to do in the spring season and excited to see what the future holds for him.
