When US diplomat Nazanin Soroush Kahler sent an email to Plymouth OB/GYN from her post in Saudi Arabia, she was searching for the perfect place to welcome her third child in cen- tral New Hampshire. After care- ful consideration, she and her husband, fellow Foreign Service officer Nathaniel Kahler, trav- eled halfway around the world to give birth at Speare Memo-
rial Hospital.
The Kahlers’ work with the US Foreign Service takes them across the globe. With two young children already—ages 4 and 2—they decided a year ago that they wanted a home base in the US where their family could return each year. “We wanted a place for the kids to call home,” Nathaniel says. Nazanin fell in love with Plymouth’s vibrant, healthy atmosphere.
After a 17-hour flight, the family arrived and Nazanin was seen at Plymouth OB/ GYN within days. She quickly met all the physicians—Drs. Jo- seph Ebner, Elizabeth Disney, Jennifer Bentwood, and Tay- lor Augustine—something she never experienced at the larger hospitals where she delivered previously. “They all wanted to know me before I gave birth,” she says.

starkly contrasted with Naz- anin’s prior births in a large Virginia hospital. “There, ten people were in the room. At Speare, it was just the doctor, two nurses, and a pediatrician. It was much more personal,”
she says. Not common in all delivery rooms, Speare’s team often includes a pediatrician to focus on the baby.
