Pemi Choral Society to Perform The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace
 Friends Open House
The Minot-Sleeper Li- brary has become a center of activity for area residents and visitors alike. Upon entering the library you will receive a friendly greeting and helpful advice from the knowledge- able staff. There are programs and events to interest all ages from babies and children to teens and adults. Check out the library website for a listing of current programming at minotsleeperlibrary.org.
One of the reasons the li- brary is able to offer such a wide array of events is due to the efforts of the Friends of the Minot-Sleeper Library. The Friends support the pro- grams and services of the li- brary through fundraising and volunteering.
On Saturday, April 5th, the Friends will be hosting an Open House to inform the public of all the Friends’ activities. Stop by the library
between 11 am and 1 pm to enjoy some delicious baked treats, congenial conversation, and a chance to win a library tote bag full of goodies.
The current Friends fund- raiser is “Dine Out for the Library”. If you haven’t had a chance to participate, there are two dates left on the cal- endar for April: Wednesday, April 9 at the Newfound Lake Innfrom5pmto9pm,and Thursday, April 10 at Cielito Mexican Restaurant from 11amto10pm.Enjoyan evening out, mention to your server that you are dining out for the library, and a portion of your bill will be donated to the Friends.

The 95-member Pemigewas- set Choral Society and 16-piece chamber orchestra presents The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Welsh Composer Karl Jenkins featuring three perfor- mances in the Lakes Region on May 1, 2, and 4 in Meredith, Gilford, and Plymouth.
This13-movement choral masterpiece communicates the growing menace of the drift into war articulating the horror of conflict mixed with moments of reflection. The performance concludes on a hopeful note with an a capella hymn affirm- ing that “God shall wipe away all tears and there shall be no more death.”
Jenkins composed The Armed Man in 1999 to com- memorate the Kosovo crisis in eastern Europe. The mass fea- tures text and musical themes
that evoke images of war and peace across many cultures, eras, and religions. Movements include text from the common Latin mass as well as the words of Rudyard Kipling and Alfred Lord Tennyson.
Chorus and orchestra are conducted William Gunn, di- rector of music at Plymouth Regional High School and 2023 New Hampshire Choral Direc- tor of the Year.
Admission to the concerts is free. Free will donations are en- couraged at the door.
