Where Have the
Birds Gone?
Community Discussion Explores Declining Bird Populations
HEBRON — The New- found Lake Region Association (NLRA) invites community members to gather for an en- gaging conversation at “Let’s Talk Nature: Where Have the Birds Gone?” on Wednesday, April 1st, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Grey Rocks Con- servation Center at 178 North Shore Road in Hebron.
This facilitated, informal discussion is part of the ongo- ing Let’s Talk Nature series, which brings people together for thoughtful, community-cen- tered conversations inspired by short, engaging articles on con- servation, climate, and ecology. The April conversation will explore shrinking North Amer- ican bird populations, and a new study that looks at where populations are declining the most and what those losses are connected to, using a recent article published by the Associ- ated Press.
Designed to be welcoming
and easy to join, Let’s Talk Nature functions like a book group but is structured for easy drop-in participation. Each dis- cussion stands on its own, so participants can attend any con- versation. Articles are shared in advance, and no prior expertise is needed.

NLRA’s mission is to protect and improve the health of the Newfound Lake Watershed, supporting ecosystem resilience and natural resource conserva- tion through focused programs and community engagement. On Friday, March 13, Job- Corps Manchester held an open house for school personnel and prospective students. Job- Corps has many opportunities for learners aged 14 to 16, and luckily, Newfound students were able to experience them. There are certificate programs in many trades, and it is also a campus with residences. Newfound Re- gional High School was able to take four prospective students to listen to graduates, visit with cur-
rent students, and tour the cam- pus. It was a fantastic day for the students, where they got to learn a lot about the JobCorps enrich- ing programs.
Students and families enjoyed a great night at NRHS as the school celebrated Music in Our Schools Month with a fantastic March concert. The event high- lighted the talent and dedication of student musicians, bringing the community together for an evening of music and school
spirit.
Newfound Memorial Middle
School is having Career Day on Friday, April 24th, from 12:30- 2:40, and they are looking for people who are interested in having discussions about their careers. You do not have to be a parent or guardian of NMMS students to participate! Present- ers will meet with small groups of students about 4-5 times for 15-minute sessions.
