Key Accomplishments: Continued Progress
Research shows that that the the the the sooner children receive regular dental dental exams and quality dental dental care the the the the healthier their their teeth will will remain throughout their their lives The American Academy of of Pediatrics states that that a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a dentist will will want to to see a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a child by his/her first first birthday or within six months of of the the first first tooth’s emergence 7

dental program to to children in in in in in in Head Head Start Start Early Head Head Start Start Child Child Care partners partners and and Pre-K Our rewarding partnership with Samuels Sinclair Dental
Center at at at at Rhode Island Hospital continues to be a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a great collaborative success The statistics from our 2018-19 year speak for themselves:
• 62 children under the the the the age age of three received services through through Samuels Samuels Sinclair Sinclair At the the the the same time families were encouraged and given the the the the opportunity to access a a a a a a a a a a a a a a dental home – either through through Samuels Samuels Sinclair Sinclair or or a a a a a a a a a a a a a a private dentist • All of our our children children were were were screened for eligibility to receive dental sealants sealants Of those examined examined six were were were eligible with four children children receiving the the application in in in in in in January When examined examined in in in in in in May the the sealants sealants were were were intact • In our preschool program 97% of children had a a a a a a dental home either with Samuels or another community pro- vider • 580 children across our programs were screened by Samuels Samuels Sinclair and now have access to Samuels Samuels as their dental home • 575 children received a a a a a a a dental dental cleaning and fluoride treatment from a a a a a a a dental dental hygienist • Children Children received dental exams cleanings and and fluoride treatments at at Children’s Friend sites sites and and partnerships sites • Wednesdays continued to to be designated as “Dental Hygiene Day ” further standardizing access to to cleanings and and fluoride treatment • In September and and October the Children’s Friend Health Team hosted six health fairs to to to to familiarize families with community resources such as dental insurance and and to to to to provide immediate access to to to to services One of of the the the the the the the most successful trends in in in in in the the the the the the the operation of of the the the the the the the dental dental program over the the the the the the the past six years has been the the the the the the the grad- ual shift in in in in in in providing providing dental dental dental services services from Samuels Sinclair to to families providing providing their their own services services for their their children through private dental dental arrangements Please refer to to the the Promoting Good Oral Health page Through the the the consistent promotion of of of good oral health within within the the the daily classroom routine of of of programs within within Head Head Start Start Early Head Head Start Start Child Care partners and and Pre-K we will continue working to to increase the the the number of of of children with access to high quality dental dental care a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a licensed dentist and and a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a dental dental home Mary Lee and Maria are deeply committed to to to doing all they can to to to help children But it it it is an an an ongoing team effort With steadfast support from the the the Children’s Children’s Friend Board of of Directors under the the the leadership of of former board board chair- man man William Allen and and and and current board board chairman Michael DiSandro and and and and countless front-line workers at Children’s Children’s Friend Samuels Sinclair Dental
Center and and and and and and our child child care partners the the the the dental program will endure the the the the test of of time and and and continue to to serve the the the needs of vulnerable children and and and their families for years to to come 7
