In the evening, Ant puts food in the cupboard. There is bread, cheese and meat. She has got a lot of food for the winter. Grasshopper doesn’t think about winter. Winter is too far away! It is summer now. In the evening she flies and plays! It’s November, a month of autumn. It is cold and it is raining. But, Ant is very happy. Now she can sit in her house and read a book. Grasshopper is happy, too. She is sitting in a tree and singing in the rain. It is winter. It is cold and it is snowing. Ant is warm in her small house. She has got lots of food to eat. There is soup, bread, and cheese. There are vegetables and cakes. Grasshopper doesn’t want to sing now. She is cold and hungry. She goes to Ant’s house and knocks at the door. KNOCK-KNOCK! and time for play!’’ says Ant. Ant opens the door. She has got lots of food. There is soup, vegetables and a fruit cake on the table. Mmmm, yummy! Grasshopper is cold and hungry. She wants to come inside Ant’s house. But Ant isn’t happy. ‘’In summer you sing all day. But, now, you are cold and hungry!’’ says Ant. ‘’Yes, I am a singer. In summer I sing all day, every day,’’ says Grasshopper. ‘’But I work hard. I do the housework, and I look for food for the winter. I also make a soup and bake a cake for the winter. Do you want to sing now?’’ asks Ant. ‘’No, I don’t want to sing. I am very cold and very hungry. Now I understand! I only like playing and singing, but work is also important!’’ says Grasshopper. ‘’Yes, Grasshopper! There is time for work 39
