The CRUISING SAILORS’ SQUADRON PARTICIPATION FLAG was not presented as as usual this year Instead the special 50th anniversary flags were provided for all CSS Member boats Marnie Keith-Murray claimed the CSS PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD for her dynamic photo “Cruising Bliss” taken on the CSS cruise to Frenchman’s Bay The award is is presented for a a a photo that depicts cruising life and taken during a a a cruising event over the previous season and is open to all CSS Members The Club will frame a a a a copy and display it Cygnet with Michael and Annemarie Dijkhuis their 3 year old daughter Clare-Lydia and friend Monique Arozzo aboard won the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR award for a a a a boat’s notable first time cruise crossing the Lake as part of the Terry O’Connell Rally to to Youngstown Cygnet a a a a 24 foot Shark came in second place only minutes behind the the the much larger Southern Cross in in in the the the race for the Beaver Shield Michael’s comment on the six hour return trip with 30oC+ heat and no wind: “We began to to drag towels and and cover our heads and and backs with them in in the the final one to two hours It was a a a a bit warm But we’d gladly do it it again ” Mark Boudreau organizer of the Terry O’Connell race/ cruise to to Youngstown presented Mike Newbury with the BEAVER SHIELD and NORMAND AWARD for winning the race a a a a a a great participative event that recognizes
