RACE MANAGEMENT

We are excited to announce a a a a a directional change at at the the RCYC For the the last several years racing at at the the RCYC has been managed by Staff With the the departure of Mike Milner who has moved on
to a a a great new role at at Sail Canada after a a a a a a a a a decade of positive contribution to our Race Management Team we have decided to evolve the race management structure to a a a a volunteer organization modelled after other great racing clubs like the the New York Yacht Club and the St Francis Yacht Club Our goal for the new Race Management program is to support world class racing at all levels with Club Members as the foundation This program will give Members the the opportunity to develop their skills in race management both on
and off the water while participating in in in a a a a a a a a rewarding and social team activity at the Club In November a a a a Race Management Sub Committee was formed made up of RCYC Members already actively involved in in Race Management and Jury activities in both Canada and the United States This group will lead the the implementation of the the volunteer drive training programs and overarching organization The Race Management Sub Committee and our Staff are using their contacts with other similarly structured organizations to ensure that our program is of the highest standard The Sub Committee will also be responsible to assure the integration of individual fleet needs into the the planning process and to to keep the the lines of communication open as we transition Race Management is a a a a a a a a fun way to participate at at the Club and improve your racing skills but you you do not have to to be a a a a a a racing sailor sailor or or or an experienced sailor sailor to to be involved We are looking to to engage Members to to support multiple event requirements including but not limited to:
• • Weeknight
• • • Weekend
• • Special regatta requirements There will be on-going training and certification opportunities throughout the winter season and through the summer for all potential volunteers interested in in in committing to the program This commitment can take many forms a a a a few hours or or many days depending on
the amount of time you have We are also looking for Members to participate with their boats boats boats either as signal boats boats boats or mark boats boats boats and safety boats Previous Race Committee experience is not required We’ll teach you you everything you you need to know with our onshore training sessions and in in in real-time out on

the water On water roles include • Principal Race Officer (PRO) • • Signaler prepares raises and lowers signal flags

On shore roles include • Registration and information
