Your children are hearing about COVID-19 and as parents you want to make sure they get reliable information. Here are some tips from kidshealth.org.
Ask questions geared to your child’s age level. Asking questions will help you understand what kind of information your child knows and if it is correct.
Follow your child’s lead. Some children may want to talk. But it’s also okay if they don’t.
Focus on helping your child feel safe, but be truthful.
If your child asks about something that you don’t know the
answer to, be honest.
Speak calmly and reassuringly. Kids pick up on it when
parents worry so use a calm voice.
Give kids space to share their fears. Let them know they can always come to you to talk about what scares them.
Know when they need guidance. Keep checking in with your child.
Talk about current events with your kids often. It’s important to help them work through the things they hear about.

RUBBERY GOOP
SOCIAL & FAMILIES • 21
Moulding it in the hands is very addictive as the texture is delightful. It is so much fun to play with, you can pull the goop apart and roll it back together to form a smooth ball. You can squeeze it and it will squish through your fingers.
What you’ll need:
• 2 cup baking soda • 1 1⁄2 cups water
• 1 cup of corn flour/
starch
• Food colouring
(optional)
Instructions:
1. Combined all ingredients into a saucepan.
2. Mix the ingredients together using a whisk to remove lumps.
3. Heat on stove stirring with a wooden spoon.
4. Bring the mixture to boil continuously stirring.
5. Small lumps will begin to appear, continue to stir until a thick mixture has formed.
6. Turn out onto the heat proof surface. Be careful the Rubbery Goop will be very hot!
7. Knead together to form a smooth ball of Rubbery Goop.
8. Store in a plastic zip-lock bag or airtight container.
INVISIBLE INK WITH LEMON JUICE
Making invisible ink is a lot of fun, you can pretend you are a secret agent as you keep all your secret codes and messages hidden from others. All you need is some basic household objects and the hidden power of lemon juice.
 What you’ll need: • Half a lemon • Water
• Spoon
• Bowl
• Cotton bud
• White paper
• Lamp or a light bulb
Instructions:
1. Squeeze some lemon juice into the bowl and add a few drops of water.
2. Mix the water and lemon juice with the spoon.
3. Dip the cotton bud into the mixture and write a message onto the white paper.
4. Wait for the juice to dry so it becomes completely invisible.
5. When you are ready to read your secret message or show it to someone else, heat the paper by holding it close to a light bulb
PAINTING WITH ICE – MAKE YOUR OWN ICE PAINT
What you need
• 1 cup of water
• Red, yellow, green, and blue food coloring • Short Popsicle sticks
• Ice cube tray
Freeze and then let your imagination take over (to dry faster we use paper towels to absorb the extra water).
Rubbery Goop looks and feels like basic play dough, but it is textured differently. It is smooth, soft and slightly stretchy.
