follow a comprehensive long-term capital program to eliminate such occurrences, a key foundational priority. On top of all this, our property team is engaged in a thoughtfully-prioritized program for flood mitigation at this time. This will include wisely spending the $120,000 envelope we approved at the November Meeting of Members. Please watch for communications as this unfolds. I would also ask Members to consider signing any and all related petitions directed at various levels of government to advocate for action on Great Lakes flood mitigation. All this sounds ambitious yes, but achievable with the right level of Member cooperation and support.
Sailing is always a focus, and we owe a huge interim thanks to Jenny Farrand and Lauren Laventure for holding the fort during this transitional time, and the team’s refreshing approach to Member service, and to our important Junior and Adult sailing programs. Even our signature Canada’s Cup has been refreshed for 2020 (Sept 18-26). We are using the exciting IC 37 as
our modern, strict one-design sailboat of choice which requires a co-ed gender and Corinthian (non-pro) team. We are also celebrating with Can-Am youth, a veteran-warrior and a disabled-sailor components. Our RCYC Defiant defence syndicate held an introductory Club-wide meeting for race competitors, trial horse activation and support roles. We appreciate all these efforts and look forward to more progress as Neil rounds out his team.
For me, the most attractive aspect of Membership here at the RCYC is our two-property-for-one, year- round value proposition. Equally important is our Membership engagement, volunteerism and verve. Above all, though, is the camaraderie. As your Board and Management Team, our immediate priority is to focus on delivering all of this more efficiently and effectively.
Stay Tuned.
A Special Thank You from the Broad Reach Foundation
On September 27th-29th, the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, Toronto, hosted the J/105 Canadian Championship 2019 – a truly competitive event, with truly skilled and dedicated sailors striving for their best possible results. RCYC has the largest fleet of J-105s on Lake Ontario, numbering 16 in total. Broad Reach is blessed with our own J-105, named SottoVento, purchased with a generous grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation -- minus the skilled crew -- yet!

RCYC has provided various forms of support to Broad Reach for many years, and in 2018 Michael Mountford presented us with a cheque for $6,500, raised through the thoughtfulness and generosity of the J105 participants.
This year, Michael Mountford presented Broad Reach with a slightly different cheque, in the amount of ... (drum-roll) ... $29,500! This amount is larger than some of our corporate donations! Many, many thanks are due Michael, Kevin Mitchell, Doug Bullock and everyone in the J-105 fleet who made this Royal Donation possible – in fact, 29,500 thanks are deserved!
Michael Mountford and Samuel Paul Wilson were presented with a Philanthropist of the Year Awards and Mark Olearo was appreciated as the 2019 Broad Reach Volunteer of the Year.
