Obituary / Death Notices
ROBOR, Katarzyna - With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Katarzyna (Kay) Robor, whose life ended at home, surrounded by unending love. Kay was in her 92nd year, born August 2, 1925, in Witan, Poland.
Kay led a colourful
life. She survived her
teenage years during
the Second World War
working alongside
her future husband,
Michal, for a Baroness
in Germany. When
the war ended, they
chose to immigrate
to Canada with
daughter Wanda, and
settled in Oil City.
After the birth of 2
more daughters, Geni
and Liz, Kay and Mike moved to Wanstead where they farmed for 17 years. They then moved into the town of Wyoming where they both lived out their remaining years. Kay had a wonderfully warm heart. Not a single stray cat went unfed; no bird was allowed to fly away hungry. She was ‘Kay’s Taxi’ to many of her Polish friends until she decided to relinquish her license in the spring of 2016. Still, no appointment would be missed if Kay could help it. She had a great sense of humour and delighted in both hearing and telling life’s stories. Kay never missed a sunset, always marvelling at the unique beauty of each one. Her garden was her pride and joy. She tended her garden daily, making sure every plant could shine its brightest when it bloomed. Becoming a Canadian citizen was a point of honour for her, and she carried her pride of country boldly. She rmly believed there was no better place to be than Canada. Kay worked at John’s Restaurant for 25 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Polish Choir at Queen of Peace Church, and a member of the Catholic Women’s League. She was a proud member of the Polish Alliance of Canada, where she could share her Polish heritage with others. She was one of the best pierogi and cabbage roll makers around. Kay was extremely proud of the accomplishments of each and every family member, great and small. She was especially proud of any new addition to the family, either by birth or marriage. Always humble, she was the de nition of unconditional love and generosity. Kay will always be seen as the grandmother to everyone in the community of Wyoming, where she has lived for such a long time. She will be missed by all, especially her Niagara St. neighbours with whom she shared snow removal, yard maintenance, garden prep, as well as planting and tending the vegetable garden which always fostered great debate as to what to plant. She shared a special bond with each and every one. Kay was predeceased by her husband Michal Robor, cherished daughter Wanda Rich, brothers Lubomir and Jaroslav, sister Anna and son-in-laws Jack Rich and Gabriel Picazo. Kay will be forever missed by her daughters Geni Picazo and Liz (Kevin) Wagner, and by her grandchildren and their partners, Ambar (David) Hehn, Dziewanna (Rob Booth) Picazo, Alheli Picazo, John ( Tara) Rich, Judy (Dave Billings) Rich, Jarvis Rich, Matt (Chelsea) Wagner, Alexis (Brian Nolan) Wagner and her wonderful great-grandchildren Jack and Lia Rich and Leif, Hiatt and Eian Rich. Special thanks to the Bluewater Health Team in ICU, as well as the 4th Floor Stroke Unit, for such compassionate care, and to Dr. Kim and the Palliative team from CCAC and the VON for helping us bring our special lady home to enjoy her nal days. She so wanted to see the sunsets and her flowers blooming. Her nal sunset was a glorious one. Family and friends were received at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Friday, May 26, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service was held at Queen of Peace Church, 566 Rosedale Ave, Sarnia, on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wyoming.
