Lambton Chiropractic Centre Fall is here... be sure to protect your
back and knees when gardening!!
From laying down top soil and mulch, fertilizing grass, lawn mowing, to getting your gardens and outdoor spaces ready for winter...
we all can be injury prone if we are not careful with our bodies.
Here are some tips on how to prevent your back from giving out
or your knees from buckling.
• Make sure you warm-up a little prior to working outside.
Do a 5-10 minute power walk around the block and some simple stretches for your knees and back.
• Have another person help when carrying top soil or fertilizing soil. Use your big muscles (butt muscles, shoulder muscles) when lifting and carrying.
• Take small breaks after every 15-20 minutes of work so you do not fatigue your muscles.
• Use knee rests on the concrete surface or squat if you are able to. Try not to have direct pressure over the knee cap.
• If you have a weak back try not to bend so much. Rather rotate your body around your hip joint.
