LKCS celebrates 50 years Saturday

When Marie Carter walked through the doors of the new Lambton-Kent Composite School 50 years ago in September, there was barely room for all the students.

Carter, a Dresden historian who runs the Dresden Virtual History Group Facebook page, was a Minor Niner the year the high school opened its doors.
“When the school opened it was full to bursting. Not everyone had a locker, there were too many of us... A far cry from today,” she says via Facebook. “But that was the height of the baby boom bubble going through the system.”
As the school celebrates 50 years of learning this Saturday with a day-long event that starts with breakfast in the cafeteria of the school and includes a night of reminiscing at the Dresden Legion.
LKCS was built to accommodate a
growing population and to provide a
place for elementary students whose
one-room country schools were being
shuttered. School of cials turned what

LKCS on the site of the old elementary Avery at the school.
