The forgiving material...complete elastic memory allows repeated remolding for economical splint revisions and ngerprint resistance.
Aquaplast splinting materials are available in a range of mold- ability, thickness, perforation and color options, and in a choice of instant-bonding (i.e. Aquaplast Original) or non-stick surface (indicated by “-T”). All Aquaplast materials offer properties that simplify splintmaking and modifications, including:
• 100% memory for repeated reheating and economical splint modifications
• Translucency of white and pastel Aquaplast when the material is soft for easy landmarking and observing potential pressure areas
• Fingerprint resistance
• Stress fatigue resistance
• Excellent rigidity
• Latex free
For ordering information, see pages 450-455.
• For Aquaplast-T® in beige, please refer to the beige color on page 454 & 455 under the WatercolorsTM brand. • For Aquaplast Original, which is Aquaplast without non-stick coating, please see page 450.
Helpful Hints for Splinting
• Take advantage of the transparency of white Aquaplast and of the pastel colors in the Watercolors range. When molding directly against the skin, watch for blanching, which indicates potential pressure areas, and relieve these areas while contouring.
• Wrap-and-tack technique—traditional non-stick versions of Aquaplast and Watercolors have just enough surface tack to produce a light bond if deliberately pressed together when soft. The bond can be popped open when cool. Ideal for forming gauntlet and circumferential splints such as thumb spica and elbow splints. For a permanent bond, use Aquaplast Original (page 450) or splint solvent or scrape the sur- face of the splint prior to bonding the softened material.
• Pinch-and-cut technique—pinch edges together and trim with scissors to seal them for seamless finger cylinders and toe caps. This tech- nique can be used with traditional Aquaplast-T and Watercolors products, not with products that have an anti-microbial coating.
