8th Annual Mae West Memorial Pet Run!
By Jennifer Anderson
A BIG THANK YOU to Doug, Misty, Dick Cartier and Sick Boy Motorcycles!
No one has bigger shoes to fill than Doug Asermely from Sick Boy Motorcycles – not only did he create the “Sick Boy Motorcycles” brand and bring it from New England to riders throughout the world, but he used those very friendships created in the motorcycle industry to give back in a BIG WAY!! Doug and his wife, Misty are HUGE animal lovers! Not only are they home to countless animals (and if Misty had her way – it would be even more!), but they even travel with their furry friends to shows and rallies around the country.
Doug created the first Mae West Memorial Ride after he heard of the loss of Mae West, the beloved cat of Charlie St. Clair, Executive Director of the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association. Mae West was a tiny, rescue cat and the NH Humane Society rightfully determined she needed a name with a BIG personali- ty! Throughout the 6 years that Doug and Misty organized the Monday Mae West ride, it was ALWAYS our biggest Gypsy Tour of the week! Hundreds of Sick Boy customers, fans and Laconia rally enthusiasts joined for a Monday ride around local towns. Close friend, Billy Grotto from Twisted Tea, helped to lead the pack with his furry-Frenchie, Tank, happily along for the ride. Between Doug’s loyal customers and famous friends, we had the greatest raffle prizes and the most fun you could have on a Monday! Multiple organizations benefited from the Mae West Ride, including the NH Humane Society & funds4paws.org. We can never express our gratitude to Doug & Misty for raising well over $65K in funds solely for the animals of need here in the Lakes Region and NH. Our furry friends love you both!
Start of the Mae West Ride.
Relaxing before the ride.
Doug and Misty are spending more and more time at their store in Deadwood, SD and have left the Mae West Ride reigns to the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association. Although it is big shoes to fill, we know riders love their pets and will continue to support the Mae West Ride and our local animal shelters.
Please join us for the 8th annual Mae West Pet Run on Monday, June 14th during this year’s 98th Anniversary of Laconia Motorcycle Week. Line up on Lakeside Ave. in front of Rally Headquarters and leave at 10:30 sharp. A police- escorted ride through the beautiful back roads of the Lakes Region to NHMS– motorcycle nirvana! Upon arrival, all rid- ers can take a lap around the NHMS track and then park right in the center of all the action. The ride is $25 for rider and $20 for passenger, which gets you a door prize ticket and a very cool custom pet run t-shirt. All the money raised goes directly to shelters in the NH area. For 2021, we will work with a local organization, funds4paws.org, who oversees the distribution of all proceeds. I can’t stress enough the support of all the pet owners and pet lovers who join us and yes, the more the merrier! Please go to LaconiaMCWeek.com for more details or to ask any pertinent questions about the run. Thank you for all the support! H
Jenn waits for the start of the ride with Dave & Radar.
4-legged friends love Laconia too!

Plan your route. Although it can be tempting to hit the road without a destination in mind, planning a route will ensure you’ll stay well fed and gassed up. If you don’t have a GPS, get up-to-date maps and go online to get a list of hotels and campgrounds near your route so you can find a place to rest for the night.
