Each time I share ideas on how to engage skills, I like to share this experience.
One of my friends is a baker. She does all kinds of cakes from wedding to birthday cakes. Name them. I observed carefully how often she bakes and delivers the cake and realized it was not frequent enough to break even. I approached her with an idea that worked like magic.
The idea was “let people have a bite of your cake”. I told her how she should bake cakes of smaller sizes that people can easily afford, such that people can buy as snacks and not necessarily for weddings and other events.
Since she was new in the industry, people do not really trust her process and no not even know what she does. Apart from just baking cakes, I advised her to also include other baked snacks to the list. Where to sell was not the question.
