When I think about my own youth, music was always a large part of it. Growing up in a large family in England, music played day and night in our home! We always gathered to watch the Eurovision song contest. In 1974, that meant seeing a band like we had never seen before win the music contest with a song called "Waterloo." The Swedish pop sensation called ABBA became the most successful chart topping group from 1974-1982, and I have wonderful memories of the joy their songs have brought me. That's what Mamma Mia brings back for me: the joy, excitement and high energy of amazing storytelling through music.
I could never have imagined all those years ago when I was just a teen dancing along to ABBA, that I would be here now, directing this show. All that it took was a brilliant choreographer, a gifted music director, an extremely dedicated production team, and just 39 of the most talented local individuals. Let me tell you, Peterborough has some amazing singers, dancers and actors! Each part of this team has brought their own personality to this process, to help shape the production, which has all come together to bring my vision to life. I could not be more excited to bring our amazing production of Mamma Mia to the audience.
On behalf of St. James Players, the cast and crew, and our entire group of volunteers, we wish you, our audience, a fun filled night of joy, laughter, song and some toe-tapping. Sit back and enjoy the music of ABBA.
