Founded in 1972, St. James Players is a community group dedicated to musical theatre. We started out in a very modest way, performing in the church hall, borrowing costumes, improvising a stage, and using whatever was available for sets. We had a simple goal: to provide musical theatre opportunities for the talented people of our community. Now, 47 years later, St James Players is a vital part of Peterborough's theatre community.
We currently present two musical theatre productions each year. Our Fall show is our larger production and it typically has a predominantly adult cast. It is put on at Showplace every November with a run of up to two weeks. Recent productions include Shrek, and Mary Poppins. This year, we are thrilled to be bringing the first Peterborough production of Mamma Mia! to Showplace.
Our Spring production is focused on getting kids on stage and passionate about theatre. It provides an important way to develop young talent while entertaining our community—it is staged toward the end of April in the large auditorium at St. James United Church. Recent productions include Alice@Wonderland, and Peter Pan: A Musical Adventure. We are very excited that for Spring 2020 we will be staging a production of Matilda and award winning musical based on the book by the beloved children's author, Roald Dahl.
