4 a word from the publisher Florida offers a tremendous opportunity for year-round drag racing, which is rather unique to most of the country. As we are in the winter and still racing here in Florida, many folks across the country are huddled around the fireplaces remi- niscing about their past race season and planning for the upcoming one. A few snowbirds have wisely fled the dreaded ice and snow of the northern states and headed south to the sunshine state to continue their drag racing effort.. Another wonderful opportunity is to publish this magazine, which is focused exclusively on drag racing in Florida. When considering the development of a magazine geared solely to Florida’s drag racing scene, it was surprising that our market research showed that there were no other publications or centralized source of information for drag racers and fans of the sport. While Facebook is a popular social media platform for drag racers and fans to share their racing experiences, there are plenty of gaps that do not fit well in that medium. While there are other drag racing publications available on the newsstand and online, none of them are focused exclusively on drag racing in the sunshine state. Our goal is to provide a wealth of information and knowledge to the drag racing community in Florida. We plan to cover many drag races activities across Florida and not just the big events. The backbone of drag racing is the “weekend warrior”, the guys (and gals) who works on their cars throughout the week in order to race on the weekends. We want to pay respect to that hard work, dedication, commitment and spirit. Within the pages of the magazine, we plan to pro- vide information about emerging new technology, which continues to advance the sport to greater levels beyond what many thought possible. We also want to showcase many racers and the often unsung crews who toil for the fun and the glory of the sport of drag racing. Lots of guys and gals are out there busting their tail to get their cars and motorcycles in competitive shape for the weekend. Their stories are ones of interest that we want to share with you too. While this issue may not include everything we hope to offer to you now, our plan is to increase event coverage at the drag strips throughout Florida. We also plan to bring aboard more photographers and writers who have an interest in drag racing. For those of you who may be interested in submitting photos and/or writing for Drag Racing Magazine, please get in touch with me. Call or email for infor- mation on working with us on a freelance basis as a writer, editor or photographer. I hope to personally meet many of you at the vari- ous drag strips around Florida this year. We will be at as many races as we can throughout the year to learn from you what you would like to see in Drag Racing Magazine. In closing, thank you for joining our drag racing fraternity and welcome to the first edition of Drag Racing Magazine. DRAG RACING MAGAZINe JAN - feb 2020 Vol. 1 No. 1
