X MARKS THE SPOT
FOR NEW BMW SAVs
AT BMW WEST PALM BEACH AND BRAMAN BMW JUPITER
By Peter Frey -The Test Drive Guy
If your ideal vehicle is one that has plenty
of room for people and cargo... but still drives like a sports car, then BMW West Palm Beach and Braman BMW Jupiter have just what you’re looking for, includ- ing the all-new X2 crossover, a revised X5 and the new 7-passenger X7.
The X2 – already in the WPB and Jupi- ter showrooms -- shares its mechanical components with the excellent X1, but features its own unique, bold styling which can be made even more muscular via the optional, rally-inspired, M Sport X package of special bumpers and side skirts, 19-or 20-inch wheels and special trim inside and out.
Under that long, muscular hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter in-line-four cylin- der engine delivering 228 horsepower to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. 0 to 60 mph acceleration takes just over six seconds and performance can be customized
via BMW’s Eco Pro, Comfort, and Sport
46
driving modes.
Safety features such as lane-departure warning, automatic high-beams, for- ward-collision warning, and low-speed automated emer- gency braking go a long way
toward eliminating those OMG moments. Other tech features include the latest iDrive infotainment, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot-spot connectivity and Apple Car Play, all con- trolled via 6.5- or 8.8-inch touch screen displays. Add it all up and you’ll agree that the new X2 is a true BMW.
Moving up a size, the X5 SUV, BMW’s best-selling performance crossover SUV worldwide, celebrates its 20th anniver- sary with the debut of an all-new, third generation model at BMW West Palm Beach and Braman BMW Jupiter later this summer. Built at BMW’s plant in Spartan- burg, South Carolina, the X5’s new styling rides atop the modular CLAR platform
(as does the 7 Series), resulting in lighter weight and more interior room for seven passengers in three rows of seating.
The X5 currently comes in six models, ranging from a 300 horsepower, turbo- charged 6-cylinder to a 445 horsepower V-8 and a 308 horsepower plug-in hybrid. Most come equipped with all-wheel drive, giving the X5 awesome handling, sure-footed traction in all weather condi-
tions and the ability to drive o -road.
If you’ve always found the idea of a BMW SUV intriguing, but wished they’d just go ahead and make a full-sized one, your wish will come true later this year with the all-new 7-passenger X7.
Designed to compete with cars like the Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GLS, Land Rover Range Rover Long-Wheel- base and Lincoln Navigator, the new
X7 will be BMW’s luxury agship, with luxury and technology at 7 Series levels and higher. Under the hood, you can expect choices ranging from six to eight cylinders, both turbocharged, as well as a plug-in hybrid.
