CALLING THE REGISTER
5 days in June The MGC Register take over the Chateau Impney
At is launch in 1967, the MGC didn’t get the best reviews from the motoring press, but over the years has achieved a little bit of cult status. Many owners make subtle modifications to improve handling and performance, and some make major upgrades - such as Andy Young who beat all the MG V8’s last year to win the BCV8 race championship.
So after 50 years, 217 MGC Roadsters and GTs descended at Chateau Impney for the big anniversary. The event was some 18 months in the planning, and included a road run to RAF Cosford with lunch in Hangar 1, another run to GWR at Toddington with a hog roast lunch. Saturday was the main show day and gala dinner with prize giving - and just a few short speeches.
The event finished with a road run to The Fleece Inn at Bretforton, before fond farewells.
There were visitors from 19 countries, including an MGC shipped over from New Zealand, a couple who drove from Norway, another from The Isle of Skye - and many from Switzerland as well as the rest of Europe.
Saturday at the Chateau included a Concours d’elegance and Pride of Ownership contest - but the overall standard of every car was outstanding. People had obviously put in lots of effort leading up to the event to ensure their cars were at their best.
The select group of traders present were a great addition, and the support from the hotel was excellent.
