The team is the second oldest active team after Ferrari and one of the most successful teams in Formula One history having won 182 races, 12 drivers championships and eight constructors championships.After Bruce McLaren died in a testing accident in 1970 Teddy Mayer took over and took their frst constructors championship in 1974. Last year was the 40th anniversary of James Hunts epic win driving a Marlboro McLaren.In 1981 the team merged with Ron Dennis Project Four racing and Dennis took over as team principal then bought out all shareholders to take full control and thus began the teams most successful era with drivers Alain Prost, Niki Lauda and Ayrton Senna.The team have reverted back to the old Bruce McLaren days and the orange livery is back on the car. Zak Brown is now at the helm as team principle, and unfortunately saw both cars struggle in testing after completing the least amount of laps of any team. Poor reliability and a lack of pace being the main cause but as they left Barcelona they were adamant the team would be working hard to get back to being competitive for the frst race in Australia.MCLARENHONDA162
