modern Sunseeker is a far cry from the original models. With average prices of ownership from £5-£20 million they have successfully shifted the company’s focus toward to high end production superyachts. The Poole shipyard employs 2000 people, with 9 boats in build at any time, each having about 2000 man hours spent. The fbre glass hand constructed “jelly mould” hulls are probably the cheapest part of the boat, with the real money being spent inside on luxury fttings and technology.Every boat is custom built to the buyers own specifcation, some spending between £90-130k just on marble for the bathrooms. The company prides itself on not only building superb, high tech, modern boats but on the relationships with their clients. Sunseeker London will sell circa £40m of boats a year with sister company based just outside Cannes in the South of France achieving comparable sales because most of the salesmen count their clients as friends. When you buy a boat for this sort of money you expect it to be perfect, but I think the surprise for many clients is the level of service the company offers. They will fully manage your boat, fnd captains and crew, cleaners, moorings, even arrange charter when you are not using your boat. The bespoke service is second to none, you don’t just own a Sunseeker you become part of the family. As Chris Head, sales director and co-owner of Sunseeker London says, “we don’t sell boats, we sell dreams” nobody ever thinks buying a boat is sensible and you will almost certainly loose some money on it, but you simply cannot put a price on the experience. If you haven’t had the experience of boats, then charter a Sunseeker and I’m sure you’ll be converted, I fnd a group of six is perfect for a long weekend and I’d be really surprised if by the time you leave you’re not seriously thinking about paying the dealer a visit.61
