All the work we saw was amazing, but the one stand out piece is a 6 foot wide painting of a shop window, airbrushed in hyper realism on foamalux board, called “Inescapable Truth”, this piece took 451 hours over 2 years and Piers separates the disciplines of his business, the pure art side is called Enth Degree. He then showed us a work in progress, another large scale piece, this time depicting the demise of the nation featuring an Austin Allegro, so far he is 500 hours in...
Piers is a smart guy and he considers himself lucky enough to have the nances to indulge in his more artistic projects, but like all those we see who love what they do, completely immerses himself in his work, often going back to the house for a few hours with the family before back in the shed for late night lost in his art.
Piers has painted helmets for Rally Legend Petter Solberg, a Bike for David Beckham, and a bunch of helmets for the guy who owns SuprDry. If you want Piers to make your lid look like it belongs on the podium, then get in quickly as the current waiting time is just over three months. He is always trying to move toward the higher quality jobs and some of the projects he showed us are a remarkable combination of engineering, ingenuity, and art, so for those in the art world that have shunned airbrush art for many years, Piers’s brand of hyper realism, from his installation art to the helmets is pure art and we’d tip it to become very collectable.
As we prepare to leave the studio, he is downloading some images for us, from the immense le of work, whilst cleaning a spray gun that he has just put the blue into a Union Jack on the back of a helmet, before masking for the next colour, I comment of how laborious and intricate each process is, his response is simple – That’s why I don’t get out much.
