We now have a room full of very enthusiastic latin blooded men waving their hands and excitedly talking about what they can do. I call a little time out. What we need is a 3D scan that Jenny can then work with to get the shaping and size exactly to her feet and where she places them. I suggest I go home and talk to a car company as we need some high tech digitisations to build this chassis. Then we create the moulds and let the craftsmen take over for the prototypes. If we are going to do this, then lets do it properly.
We drive back to the Stabord studio overlooking the container port to nalise our plan. Nuno and I sit in a row of beautiful prototype chairs as we discuss the process. He also shows me a few of his architectural projects on the deign boards, this is a super talented man. We are nearly at the end of our visit, so the last gesture from Nuno Rodrigues quite takes me by surprise - when I rode the longboard the day before I had explained when I was a skater our boards were much shorter and we were bowl riders. Nuno presents me with a gorgeous mahogany and ebony veneered deck with mat black trucks and 70mm Blue Kryptonics. I’m speechless it looks like I’m a skater again...

We all have the feeling this could grow into a very special idea as the “lifestyle” cruiser decks that spin out of the racing project hit the Miami and California sidewalks and seafront boulevards of Spain, Portugal and Italy. So as I y home (and thanks to the wonderful Easyjet ladies for letting us carry on two skateboards) I have the task of nding an automotive partner to help us develop what could be the world‘s rst designer racing downhill longboard. I have a few ideas of whom I’m going to call rst....
