can actually accelerate (Gino’s thumbs is waving like a demented hitch hiker...) through the double apex of Rivage “treat it as one corner” Gino’s words from earlier replaying in my head, now we are ying, and he is still pushing the thumb up. The speed the 488 can carry through Blanchimont is mind blowing, then I drop though the box as I’m hard on the brakes for the Chicane, Gino is giving me the crossed forearms signal, which means pit lane.... as we make our way down to our pit box I am buzzing, what a car, great tuition from Gino. I swing in to the pit box and kill the engine. Totally amazing experience, now it’s Jenny’s turn, her second time in a racing car, rst time in a Ferrari.
Stephane is waiting for me as we watch Jenny disappear out of the pit lane in the 488, I thank him for inviting us over once more, he smiles as he knows I’m hooked. I would love to spend a day (or two) properly learning the car and the circuit and that is exactly what D2P is all about. You can book
as part of a group or as an individual, either as an experience never to forget, or to actually learn to race. They will teach you up to a level where you could apply for your race license and go racing. Stephane would suggest Ferrari Challenge as a good start to 'Gentlemen’s' racing and they will not only help you learn the skills to get on to the grid, they can lease you a car for the session and take care of all the logistics, so you just turn up and race.
Jenny is back in the pit lane, she is literally jumping for joy when she gets out of the car, she said she was so glad she took out the Lotus rst as it gave her a feel before getting behind the wheel of the Ferrari, so from absolute beginner to my rusty experience, Stephane’s team at D2P gave us both a day to remember. Every detail was taken care of and this was just a sample of a real day where we would go through each lap looking at the cars telemetry seeing where time is being lost, when to get on the power or the brakes, so by the end of the session you have improved in both technique and con dence.
Stephane opens a bottle of Champagne before we have to leave for our ights to round off a perfect sunny, but cold day at Spa Francorchamps. Whether you just want to tick that box of driving real racing cars, or if you actually fancy seeing if you’ve got the passion to race, this is a great day out that I highly recommend. The only thing that remains for me to do is check my very hectic summer schedule to nd a gap when I can come back to spend a few days with D2P and learn how to get that 488 at though Eau Rouge...
