The car was inspired by the F-16 ghter jet and was famously co-developed with Brazilian F1 legend Ayrton Senna and even today is a simply mind- blowing car to drive. Values for these semi-classic cars has been on the rise for the past few years and these days a good one is very sought after and elusive.
In around 2013 a ‘new’ NSX was being spoken about in hushed tones in the market, but how could you replace an icon? Honda had everything to lose by naming their next generation supercar the NSX yet failure was not an option. We had one on order for our Club and couldn’t wait to see it...
And so it arrived and we were excited. Not in the usual way when a supercar arrives, more like giggly seven year old children at Christmas, this wasn’t like a supercar really, it was more akin to a big, expensive and fast kid’s toy!
It’s very low and very wide with an interior which feels a bit Japanese and a bit American but is nonetheless a comfortable and pleasant place to be. The infotainment system as with all recent new cars is like navigating your way to Narnia. “What’s wrong with having a button to press guys??”
Starting and moving the car is no mean feat either, it’s not like any other car in the Club, nothing is where you expect it to be and at rst it felt very alien but you soon get used to it and it propels you along nicely with the V6 engine, the turbos and the hybrid trickery all doing their thing to shove you up the road with a little vigour where circumstances allow. I was recently testing a new runway for our top speed events and decided to take the NSX, it was a decent drive there with a mixture of motorway and A and B roads and the car coped admirably with all that you could throw at it, on the runway it was predictably savage getting to some big numbers fairly swiftly and feeling safe and planted the whole time.
Returning to our Clubhouse I parked it up amongst our other cars and had the obligatory gaze back at it. It’s a handsome thing and whilst it doesn’t have a badge with a horse, bull, wings or a kiwi on it, it still excites and can mix it with the best from Europe in a singular and ruthlessly ef cient way.
So have Honda created another icon? Well I’m really not so sure with this car, only time will tell, but it really is a brilliant piece of kit and those lucky enough to experience it will surely never be disappointed.
