pull into the gap outside Rolls Royce, both Bentley and the Rolls show rooms empty out to take a look at this little Porsche. I explain it’s a new car, “how much” is the obvious answer from the car dealers, so I lift the engine cover and show them the interior and ask what they think it costs. They are all way north of the Paul Stephens price tag of £400,000.
We take a few quick pictures, but all we want to do with this car is drive, it is so much fun. So we spend about an hour zipping around London before we pull up on Pall Mall where Paul is also waiting with the white Retro Touring R which looks splendid with its gold decals and badging. The subtle differences in body style keep you scrutinising both cars, the white one is a little bit fatter and eludes to a more modern style, while two twin fat pipes protruding from her rear valance give you a hint that this has a bit more muscle.
Paul’s passion for the Air Cooled Porsches has certainly maintained a good business for him over the years, his client base is international so he knew exactly what they wanted and how to deliver it when he embarked on this project. He races in the classic series, so he knows how to set a car up. His team of people are totally dedicated and proud of what they build, and you can see and feel the passion that goes in to every model - the attention to detail, the glorious paint nish of this truly bespoke automobile. With classic Porsches breaking records at auctions around the world, this homage to the legendary 70’s model that allows you trouble free daily use is a superb little car and with a price tag of £400k I think it is very well placed, even cheap, so I’d get your orders in with Paul quickly before he puts the price up....
