TALKING IN
CODE
After the successful launch of The Bunyade, London’s first naked restaurant and ABQ, the renowned Breaking Bad-inspired cocktail bar, Lollipop, the people behind these great pop-up adventures have invited us to their next big hit a new pop-up cocktail bar called The Bletchley.
The Bletchley takes its its cue from the secretive world of Bletchley Park: the covert government-run operation that enlisted some of the U.K’s brightest minds to build a machine capable of doing the unthinkable: unlocking the NAZI’S undecipherable and impregnable battle codes. This machine, invented by Alan Turing and his team, shortened World War II by two to four years, according to some historians, and ushered the dawn of modern computing.
Lollipop, in a similar fashion, hope to do the same in the world of mixology. They have enlisted some of the brightest experts in cocktail mixing to create an experience that is able to unlock the mysteries of our own, some times undecipherable and hidden cocktail preferences and desires. The Bletchley is hoping to revolutionise peoples approach to cocktail making.
The Bletchley invites us to sit in the war room and input basic data into a cipher machine that will decode ‘personality’ into a small menu of ingredients. This is then coupled to odour and
colour choices. This will then be all the clues we collect before using a radio-style telephone to transmit the ingredients to the back office were a cohort of mixologists expertly ‘map’ into perfectly proportional recipes. At the end of the experience we are given an envelope that holds our tailor- made Bletchley classified recipes to take home. we are told the recipes will never be used again at The Bletchley, making our experience truly unique in every-way.
The reason they are doing this is to make The Bletchley the first bar to create an immersive signature cocktail experience to be entirely designed and catered to the individuals tastes, personality and desires of their guest. To this end they are working with mixologists who are in the zone when it comes to experimentation, and who regard their work Art. So if you like a bit of intrigue to your next night out we recommend you keep a ‘look out’ when and where The Bletchley turns up.
