the week before when we were in the Radical and they just looked great fun. My Auntie Doris used to drive and A35 so it always brings a smile to my face when I see them lining up in the paddock.
One of the off-circuit highlights had to be the Auction. Held above the International Pit garages in an amazing room overlooking the start/finish line, there were some lovely cars. A Dayton 365 GT was the first thing you see when entering room, so that’s a good start. There were a couple of lovely little VW Campers and quite a few “new classics” from the 1980’s. Chris and I always like to see what the windscreen tickets are looking like... but we weren’t tempted to wave a paddle at this one, not a good idea after 3 hours sleep.
Over in the National Paddock was the gem of the show for me. The Ferrari Bread Van. The 250 GTO that was modified in such a way that Ferrari disowned it, but it has remained a legend ever since and can certainly get the deliveries done on circuit. So as we walk back toward the car park the lines of car club cars were starting to file out and we said goodbye to the Silverstone Classic for another year. Was it worth the midnight dash from Spa Francorchamps? A Sunday afternoon of classic racing on a glorious July day... I’d say so.
