The lap record at Santa Pod of 03.58 seconds is held by Sammy Miller in his Vanishing Point Rocket Funny car in July 1984 at a speed of 386.26 M.P.H., the Pod remains the fastest all- asphalt drag strip in the world.

John Bonham was shot with his wife Pat and son Jason on their country estate, Old Hyde farm in Worcestershire. His fantasy sequence is the most straight forward of all the band members. Bonham simply chose to ‘be himself’ with his family whom he missed while touring. Far from how his fans knew him in public life on stage.
The sequence ends with John Bonham drag racing an AA fueler at 260 M.P.H at Santa Pod Raceway in October 1973 and its thematic music is the instrumental “Moby Dick” which I have just re-watched and found it amazing, especially when John puts down his sticks during this long drum solo instrumental and starts to use his hands to drum, this display totally deserving of his title, “Hammer of The Gods - The Fastest and Loudest Drummer in the world”
The Hot Rod of Bonham fame, nicknamed the Ice Cream Van, still resides inside an air- conditioned plastic bubble in the potting shed of an old friend of Paddock Life’s Editor CBJ to this day after the long time friend of the band bought it from John, last shown at the custom car show 13 years ago at the NEC, Paddock Life have been trying to unearth the classic “T –Rod” for years and to put it down the quarter mile of Santa Pod would be the ultimate dream... over to you Craig
