THE PELICAN
We have Diesel Jeans to thank for this quirky hotel in South Beach, Miami. Bringing to life their philosophy with the help of Swedish decorator Magnus Ehrland, each room is completely original, kitted out with one-of-a-kind found objects. Within the art deco hotel, choose from suites like the Executive Fifties, Psychedelic (ate) Girl, Best Whorehouse and the Pelican Penthouse.
THE GRASKOP HOTEL
The Lowveld has its very own art hotel, namely the Graskop Hotel. Located on the main road, the hotel itself is a living piece of art with most of its rooms being designed by a mix of renowned and up-and-coming local artists. Part owner Harrie Siertsema’s personal art collection of paintings, murals and sculptures are carefully placed throughtout the space. We love the coat hangar room. Called Room 26 artist Gordon Froud used black plastic hangars as his medium. The back wall is covered with them, the lampshade and mirror are made of them and the result has made the ordinary extraordinary. Go to page 38 for more on the Graskop Hotel.
