The sun finally shows itself after weeks of miserable weather in the greater Mpumalanga province, warming patrons, as we sit outside on the deck of Harrie’s Pancakes sipping locally grown Sabie Valley Coffee. A woman with an orange-striped sarong wrapped around her chest and a cardboard beer box balanced on her head approaches. “Sissie, I’ve got chilli macadamias, salted macadamias and plain macadamias. One packet for R20 only,” she pleads, doing a little dance in the street. The box remains steady on her head. How does one resist? After paying for the nuts and coffee we stroll up the road to the Graskop Hotel (past at least three more nut sellers... be warned, they’re pretty persistent), to our lodgings for the night.
