O Melodious joy When a child is born
O
That journeys Behind these aching lungs And pushes the tears Clenched to the earth’s cross
Acres of men
Who kill and rape
Hell on earth Made
That divides the artery of my heart Semitic of mothering eyes
The Phoenician plain sighed
In Greece’s Homeric teeth
An insidious thorn in Rome We vow remorse
O life!
So rich and poor As yours as mine!
Up, Down, In, Out Strong and Weak Heavy and Light!
O
My centre!
The epicentre that twines
