Christ as Hound.
Dante’s Hound shares Christ’s three cherished virtues, Wisdom, Virtue and Pure Love, which mirror two of the three divine virtues of Power, Wisdom and Love inscribed over the Gate of Hell.22 Christ is the wisdom of God and Judge of the world.23 Christ guards the Christian flock just as precious Old Testament shepherd hounds guard theirs.24 To further relate this triad to the Trinity, as Hopper proposes in the following table,25 assigning Power to the Father of Inferno,26 Wisdom to the Son of Pugatorio,27 and Love to the Holy
