Whatever touches one’s humanity, consequently, procures mass applause because it affects the same principle. In other words, one’s humanity will agree to any conduct of any man, anywhere, anytime that has a beneficial tendency.60 Similarly, any man who is so far removed to neither serve or disapprove my self-interests is indifferent to one’s passions. “What serves one’s [my] own avarice or ambition pleases oneself [me] alone, it affects not the avarice and ambition of the masses.”61 The particular sentiments of self-love are
